Are You Insured?
It does not protect your things from scrapes, dents or scratches that may occur during the course of the move. These damages are covered at the household carrier’s federal legal liability of 60 cents per pound per article, and is automatic and free of charge to you. The weight of a piece of furniture is determined by a Federal publication: “The Table of Weights and Measures”, and is not an arbitrary assumption of weight by Apple’s adjusters.
No moving company can offer you insurance for moving damage; they are not brokers, and only a broker can offer insurance. This is federal law. Some moving companies offer “valuation”; a type self-insured policy, whereby you pay the moving company a set amount to cover you against damage.
Apple Moving elected a different route:
If you feel you need additional protection and your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance does not cover it (some policies do; you need to check with your insurance agent), Apple Moving is registered with an internationally recognized insurance company where you can purchase actual insurance for your household goods, and, as an Apple customer, they will offer you a discounted rate. Ask your move coordinator for information. Bear in mind that the policy must be bound not later than 24 hours prior to the move.
Additionally, unlike most moving companies, if an Apple representative damages a piece of wooden furniture, we will call in a specialist to attempt repairs at our expense.
